DAQS considers that there are two aspects to document control that all clients need to consider:
Management of Paper Documents
Management of Paper Documentation is a standard management task for all organisations but particular disciplines are required in construction-related businesses. With the vast increase in the number of paper documents in proportion to project value, consideration has to be given to devising systems that facilitate control and access and transfer to electronic media for investigation and analysis.
DAQS personnel have experience of dealing with cases involving the management of upwards of one million documents (approximately 3000 lever arch files) and assisting in the strategic control and investigation of such documentation.
Management of Electronic Documents
Structured management and access to electronic information is in its infancy in the United Kingdom. Irrespective of the controls in place, the ability to access and utilise large quantities of electronic data whilst retaining a competent audit trail requires special skills.
It is now common for there to be upwards of 6 Gigabytes of electronic information generated in a typically large construction project (the equivalent of 20,000 technical files or 300,000 pages of documents) The size of the problem is increasing with the capacity and the ease of data storage. The ability to capture and control this magnitude of electronic information requires specific skills.
As part of its developing service to clients, DAQS has designed a user-friendly cataloguing system as a first stage process to electronic document control and the use of such information. A demonstration version is provided at the Downloads.
DAQS is at the forefront of electronic data analysis to facilitate fast and economic use of data to permit the forensic investigation of project delays, disruption and associated loss and expense.
